Thanksgiving Break Part 1: Memphis

Happy Tuesday friends!  Today I am recapping the first part of our Thanksgiving Break, our time in Memphis.  Greg had never been to Memphis so we thought we would break up our 18 hour drive from North Carolina to Northwest Arkansas and see some sights.

We left our house at 4am the Saturday before Thanksgiving and made our way to Memphis.  We stopped for breakfast and coffee a few hours in because when you leave at 4am most places are not open yet.
The peak of the beautiful leaves had already passed but we did enjoy our drive through the mountains.

We stopped for a nice lunch at Abuelos before getting back on the road.  Luckily we were not in Knoxville at the peak of gameday traffic.
We were back on the road and in Memphis a little after 4pm.  My Aunt Cathy had made us a yummy home cooked dinner.  We relaxed the rest of the evening before starting our adventures on Sunday.

Sunday morning we started off our day by saying hey to The King.

We signed the wall and then made our way to Sun Studio.  Greg was so excited for this stop.  We loved our tour.  It was fantastic.

I'm sure these guitars are not cheap.

We stopped for lunch at the oldest restaurant in Memphis, The Arcade Restaurant.  Greg tried Elvis' favorite sandwich, a grilled peanut butter and banana.

After lunch we went to my favorite museum in Memphis.  We went to the Lorraine Motel which is now the National Civil Rights Museum.  This is the hotel where MLK was when he was assassinated.  So, you can't rush through this museum.  Take your time, there is so much to see.  It is worth it.  It is not easy to go through and at times is overwhelming and very sobering.  But I am begging you to make this a stop if you are ever near Memphis.

On our way out of downtown Memphis we drove down to Beale Street.  We just walked around a little bit.  We had hoped to go in the Gibson Factory but it was closed permanently.

Greg and I wanted Memphis BBQ for dinner and we split a 3 meat plate.  Dry rub ribs, pulled pork and smoked chicken.  It was delicious and we cleaned our plate.

We left Memphis Monday morning heading to NWA but made a stop at the Bass Pro Shop in the Pyramid.  As we drove to it we passed by the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.  I love supporting St. Jude's any chance I get.

We got to see a diver get in the water and feed the fish.  Carson loved it.

What a great way to start off our Thanksgiving Break!
