What Up Wednesday: August 26th

I'm linking up with Mel, Shay, and Sheaffer for their What's Up Wednesday today!

You can join in too!  Just answer these questions on the last Wednesday of each month.

What We're Eating This Week...
We are not eating at home a lot this week.  We have had a lot of places to be this week so some eating out and some eating at friends.  I'm ready to start making lots of soups and casseroles.

What I'm Reminiscing About...
This past weekend marked 5 years since I joined my church.  I have been thinking a lot about what I have learned in those 5 years and for the friends that I have made.  Not to mention I met Greg during that time.

What I'm Loving...
I have been keeping up with my She Reads Truth Bible in a Year plan.  I really love the structure they chose and how easy to access it has been.

What We've Been Up To...
Greg was gone this past weekend, so I began the process of getting our house ready for Fall!  Bring on the pumpkins and candy corn.

What I'm Dreading...
Tomorrow is my glucose test and seeing how this is my first one I'm not looking forward to it.  I don't think anyone looks forward to it, but I know it is a normal part of the pregnancy.

What I'm Working On...
I've been working on making lists of things to do in the next few weeks before I hit the point in the pregnancy where I have no energy.  I'm finding ways to stock up on items that we will need so I do not have to make as many outings when Carson comes.  What are the best things I can be working on now before life changes here soon?
What I'm Excited About...
Yes, tomorrow is our glucose test but it is also our 3D ultrasound!  We will get to see the face of our sweet little boy.  I'm hoping he does all sorts of fun things on camera.  We will see.

What I'm Watching/Reading...
Football has started so there has been a lot of football on at our house.

I've been reading Chasing God by Angie Smith.  I really like her books.

What I'm Listening To...
I have slowly been bringing out the Christmas music.  Not all the time, just here and there throughout my week.  I have the Sounds of Christmas station on iTunes Radio so sometimes I just switch over to it for a few minutes or so.

What I'm Wearing...
Maternity Jeans!  I'm loving them.  They are so comfortable.

What I'm Doing This Weekend...
I'm going to the Grand Opening of the new Kirklands in Wake Forest.  I'm hoping to be one of the first ones in to get some free goodies!  We will see.  Other than that, not too much.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month...
Next month we are scheduled to take our maternity pictures.  I'm excited and have been looking on Pinterest for some fun ideas.  I'm also doing a DIY Rustic Decorative Pumpkin Stand Workshop at Home Depot.  Any way to do things that involve pumpkins is a great thing in my book.

In theory, this is what we will be creating.  We shall see.

What Else Is New...
We are trying to think of a fun little day trip or weekend trip to take before Carson arrives.  I've been researching some options.  Hopefully we can find a good time to take some time to just get away and relax before we have a newborn to take care of.

Bonus Question: What Is Your Favorite Back To School Tradition...
My favorite tradition was always buying new school supplies.  I loved any excuse to get a new planner and new colored pens!  If only, I would have known about an Erin Condren Life Planner when I was in school.

Weekend Recap: The Welcome Fall Version

I am loving seeing all of the first day of school pictures today.  So sweet.  It makes the Monday blues a little better.  I am so sad the weekend is over.

Greg left Friday around lunch to be one of the adult leaders for our Middle School Retreat at Great Wolf Lodge so that meant I had the house to myself all evening on Friday and the majority of the day on Saturday.  Let's be honest, I HATE being by myself at night but I do enjoy having some time myself during the day.  Time to myself meant having my favorite food, baking, working on Pinterest projects with some Christmas movies and music in the background.  That my friends is the way to Emily's heart.

I am 110% positive that I was home and in my pajamas at 4:45.  It was glorious.  Not a bad way to begin the weekend.  I had a baked potato for dinner and had limited dishes.  Hooray.  I immediately began to work on my fall craft projects.  When Greg and I found out about Carson and that he was due basically the week of Thanksgiving, we quickly had a Christmas decoration discussion.   Greg is very firm on the fact about Christmas decorations.  Hear me when I say this, Greg LOVES Christmas.  However, he wants it to be in its true season.  He does not want to hear music, watch movies or have any hint of Christmas before Thanksgiving.  There is no Christmas in July for Greg.  I have no desire to decorate pre-Thanksgiving either but I do not mind to begin the music and movies early.

Here comes the problem, our original due date for Carson was the day after Thanksgiving aka Christmas Decorating Day at the Harrison's.   I have no desire to decorate for Christmas with a newborn at home or being about to pop at any minute.  Umm, no thank you.  I asked Greg if we could move decorating up earlier this year. He said YES!   Woohoo.  I'm thinking our Christmas decorations will go up early November.  I promise, they will not be up before Halloween.  I also knew that most people who are against early Christmas decorating early are so because they think Fall is getting the shaft.  I decided to begin fall early at my house because we are beginning Christmas early.  So everyone wins.  Below are my Fall Decorations.  There may or may not be a candy dish with candy corn already too.  No judging on a Monday people.

The little acorns and pine cones came from Kirklands as well as the Give Thanks block.

The coffee table is just a piece of burlap with some fall leaves.  The little square vase has gold and orange flat marbles in it.

My yarn wreath took the longest but it is so cheap to make.

Canvas, chalk paint and some fall words.  Simple.

I told Greg I wanted to make some garland, so this is my simple attempt.  Leaves attached with some string.

I found this little fall sign at Dollar Tree.

My little pumpkin basket came from Michaels.

On Saturday, I went shopping with my friend Kristen who is due just a few days before me.  It is her 4th but her 1st boy!  We went to find some boy clothes.  I wanted some cute little holiday outfits.

I love the little penguin.

I hope you all had a great weekend!  Maybe my fall decorations will bring the fall temperatures faster.  I sure hope so.

The Girls of Atomic City

I just recently learned about this book and now it is on my list of the next book to buy and read.  The Girls of Atomic City appeals to my history loving side.  I can watch World War 2 documentaries all the time.  It is fascinating to me.

This book also appeals to me for another reason, my Grandma and her Sister were two of the girls of atomic city.   I have for years asked my Grandma questions about the time of the war and she would answer some but a lot of the time she would not.  I think for her there were a lot of reasons for not answering.  One and probably the biggest reason is that there are still a lot of things that happened at Oak Ridge that is still a secret.  I'm sure there are things that she will never tell anyone.  There are probably other things that she doesn't know herself.  I mean most women who went to work at Oak Ridge had no idea what they were going to be doing.

This is just my speculation but I'm sure a lot of my Grandma being private about what happened is partial guilt too.  I know that no one knew the full scale of what would happen from those bombs.

I do look forward to reading this book and to talking to my Grandma more about her time at Oak Ridge. I'm thankful that family on both sides worked hard during World War 2 and I am blessed to know some of their stories to be able to pass on to my family.

To see some photos of life during this time at Oak Ridge, click here.  I found this link last year and think it is so interesting.

Friday Favorites

Friday is finally here!  It has been a long week.  I'm so glad it's Friday.  It is time to link up with Andrea, Erika and Narci for Friday Favorites.

My favorite this week was our Thursday night.  Greg and I were invited to Client Appreciation Event last night at the Durham Bulls game.  When we bought our house a year ago, we hit the jackpot with our real estate team.  If you live in the Raleigh area, check out The John Streit Team.

They took a large group of us to the game last night and we all had a blast.  An added benefit was that we were able to catch up with my friend Liz who we hadn't seen in a while.

Check out Wool E. Bull and all of the little Bulls.  So cute.  I love how many things there are for the kids to do at the Bulls game.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Tuesday Top Three

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I decided to make today my Tuesday Top Three.  It's the small things in life, you know.  We have to find things to celebrate throughout the week.

One
Our mulch beds are all done.  I can't take any credit for it, Greg did it all.  I was just his little assistant at Home Depot when he would go to get a few things.  I was also the one who convinced him that we may need a snocone break or two.  I did try to help but the first day was so hot and after ten minutes outside he looked at me and told me to go inside.  Hooray for getting all of that overgrown grass out of our mulch beds.  Greg has already thought about his next few outside projects.  I know one of them includes staining the deck.

Two
We have been tracking our expenses a lot more lately.  I created this spreadsheet a while back that breaks everything up into categories.  I went back through all of our receipts and charges for this year and can see where we have been spending the most.  It made my head hurt.  We have a budget but sometimes that budget gets changed, it was quite eye opening to actually see where our money was going.  Obviously, there were things that we had no control over.  It allowed me to look at some areas and think of how to cut back on them.  Even some of our monthly bills have been reevaluated and I have made calls to get some of those things lowered.  It is so exciting to see money that can be put into other categories.  As we prepare for Carson, this has been a big project and goal for us.  Every little bit of savings helps.

Three
Our Community Group kicks back up tonight.  Our group took a summer break which was nice but we are so ready to see our people again.  We have missed them and missed that special time on our Tuesdays.  Our meal choice is even a community group favorite, breakfast for dinner.  I love breakfast and I honestly love it more when it is not breakfast time.  I'm bringing Pancake Bites.  Instead of flipping who knows how many pancakes on my griddle, I will put my pancake batter in mini muffin pans and have little bite size pancakes.  I'm up for change sometimes, hopefully they are just as tasty.  Maybe I can eat more since they are small.

Be Still and Know

I have to constantly remind myself to just sit sometimes.  I have so much trouble just sitting and resting.  I want to make sure that everything is done and even when I do sit down for a bit my mind is going a million miles a minute thinking of what is coming up.  Greg often tells me his head hurts just thinking about what is going on in my head.  Sorry buddy.

Lately, we have had so many things come up.  Car things, unexpected medical bills, pregnancy costs, and just trying to prepare ourselves for Carson.  We have both been stressed and exhausted.  I'm sure there have been lots of moments of fear and being overwhelmed.  We both have said several times that we know God will provide because He always does, yet sometimes we still doubt that.  We still want to take situations in our own hands and try to do everything in our power to fix it. When our attempts at fixing the situation fail that is when we turn to God.

This has been convicting me to the core lately.  I do not want to turn to the Lord after I have tried my way first, I want to turn to Him long before that.  I want to rest knowing that He is in control and I am not.  I have a feeling a lot of my stress and fear would look a lot different if I did that.

We trust God for eternity and for salvation but often we do not trust Him for today.  He created the world, He conquered death, but He can't handle our problems?  How crazy does that sound?  I pray that I remember each day that I serve a God who can handle it.  He can handle my problems, He can handle my fears and anything else I think He can't.  He is just waiting for me.

Today, I want to be still and to rest in the peace and rest that He has given me.

Friday Favorites

It's Friday, I thought this day would never come.  It has been a crazy week so bring on the weekend.

I'm linking up today for Friday Favorites with Andrea, Erika and Narci.

One: My Hydro Flask
I went to see the doctor last week and was told to drink more water with this pregnancy.  In my defense, they told me that they have told everyone that because of how hot it is.  A month or two ago, Greg ordered us both a Hydro Flask.  We LOVE them.  I have mine with me all the time.  It has been perfect for my water.  I love ice cold water and the problem with that is that most glasses and cups sweat and I do not like that.  The Hydro Flask keeps my water cold forever and does not sweat.  Greg left his outside while he worked in the yard for hours and he still had ice in it when he came inside.  I'm telling you these things are wonderful.  His favorite review online was a soldier in Afghanistan who had his on him all day and still had cold water in the middle of the desert.  Sold!  We did order different color ones so we know which one is ours.

Two: Football Season
Football season is so close.  College football is a little less than a month away but the NFL is starting much sooner which makes Greg very happy.  Football starting means that fall is coming and I am excited about that even more.  I blogged on Wednesday about some of our favorite football game snacks.

Even Carson is ready for football when he makes his appearance in November.

Three: Minions
I love those little yellow guys.  They crack me up.  I saw this meme last week and I still find it so funny.  I thought everyone would benefit from a little Friday humor from a Minion.

Have a great weekend everyone!  I'm off to hopefully finish up some yard work this weekend and see what other projects I can finish before Carson comes.

College Football Countdown

Today is August 5th and College Football begins September 5th.  That means we have one month people!  It is almost time to wear Razorback red every Saturday.

Greg and I love being able to watch college football together and make yummy football snacks.  Greg, Carson and myself all have new Arkansas shirts to wear for this season.

We are fall people in our house and one of our favorite fall things is to have College Football on all Saturday beginning with College GameDay and snacking on our favorite football food.

Below are some of the football snacks we like.  What are some of your favorite football foods?

Brown Sugar Bacon Smokies

Wrap your smokies in bacon and place in a pan.  I always put foil or something down first to help with clean up after.  You will thank me for that.  Sprinkle with brown sugar and bake at 350 until your bacon is done.

Sausage Rotel Dip
You can't mess this recipe up.  It is a 1-1-1 ratio recipe.  1 pound of cooked sausage, 1 can of Rotel, and 1 8 oz. block of cream cheese.  Mix all together and serve with tortilla chips.

Ham and Cheese Sliders
These are my absolute favorite football snack.  We use ham and cheddar.  You can also use Swiss.  Put that on your Hawaiian rolls.  The sauce is butter, mustard, Worcestershire, onion flakes, and Parmesan cheese.  Spread the sauce all on top and bake until the cheese is melted and your sauce has cooked into your bread.  These things never last in my house.

Strawberry Razorbacks

I haven't made these, but these might be a fun treat at my house this fall.

Razorback Jell-O Jigglers

I do have this.  These were so fun to make last year and I know this will be one of Carson's favorite parts of football pretty soon.

What's New Carson

Carson, you are 24 weeks and a few days.  You are as long as an ear of corn.  That doesn't seem that big, but it does compared to a poppy seed which is what you were when we found out about you.  We are so ready to meet you.  Each day we think of new things that we can't wait to share with you.  Your Daddy is already talking about watching football with you.  Let's be honest, Mommy is ready for that too.  In case you do not know little buddy, Mommy loves college football and Daddy loves pro football.

Your wardrobe is also beginning to reflect Mommy and Daddy's love for their teams.  Daddy insisted that you are ready for the Jets games so you have a Jets onesie, a Jets hat, Jets socks and a Jets bib.  Don't worry, but Pops and Mimi have also got you about 6 different Arkansas Razorback outfits too little man.  You are set for football season.  Your Daddy is hoping that you are the answer to the long streak of Jet season letdowns.  At least he will have someone to share his sorrow with.

I think you are working on your music skills so you can play with your Dad, Uncle Josh and Chad one day.  You love to kick and you are on beat.  We are not sure if you will play drums or piano.  Maybe you will play both just like Dad.

Your room is 99% done too.  Mommy and Daddy are a little biased, but we think it is the cutest nursery ever.  We think you will love it too.  All that is left is the creations that your Uncle Wes is making for it.  He has your name in wood letters to put over your crib and has made three bookshelves to put on your wall.  They are almost done and will be here soon all the way from Arkansas.  You are one loved little man.  We have been given clothes, diapers, toys, bottles, and all kinds of things that are just for you.  Everyone is ready to meet you.

In a few weeks, we will get to see you again.  Mommy will also have just taken her glucose test so hopefully I'll be in a good mood.  I know seeing you will be the best part of the day.

We love you buddy!  Keep growing and keep kicking in there.  See you in a few months.
