What's Up Wednesday

I'm not sure how we only have a few more days in March, but it is true.  Today is What's Up Wednesday with Mel, Shay and Sheaffer.

As always, I will answer the following questions and one bonus question.

What We're Eating This Week...
Monday: Fried Chicken Nuggets, Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli
Tuesday: Taco Tuesday
Wednesday: Stir Fry
Thursday: Chicken Alfredo
Friday: We are taking dinner to friends, so I'm not sure yet

What I'm Reminiscing About...

This time five years ago we were in Charleston on our honeymoon.  I keep thinking about our time in Charleston.  Me, the hubby and pralines.

What I'm Loving...
I'm loving all of the 70 degree days we have been having.

What We've Been Up To...
We had DNow at our church this past weekend.  It was a great weekend and we finally feel rested again.  We also celebrated our anniversary with lunch at Kanki after our busy weekend.

What I'm Dreading...
I'm afraid we still have several days/weeks of heavy pollen.  I just want to be able to breathe.

What I'm Working On...
I'm taking part in a Vendor Fair on April 8th so I'm working on mini-facials for Rodan + Fields and some other great items.  I'm hoping it goes well.

What I'm Excited About...
More time to play outside with this buddy.  He loves bubbles and he like to say bubble too.
What I'm Watching/Reading...
I think I join in with a large group of others in saying I've been watching Beauty & the Beast.  I loved it and I'm ready to see it again.  I've already pre-ordered it on iTunes.

We also had pre-ordered Rogue One so we watched that on Sunday.

I've been reading Nothing to Prove by Jennie Allen lately.

What I'm Listening To...
Do you see a trend?  I have had this on repeat for a week.

What I'm Wearing...
Just the usual...jeans, maxi skirts, light jackets, and the sandals.

What I'm Doing This Weekend...
This is our only free weekend for a while so I'm hoping for some nice weather to spend it outside.
I bought these little starter plants at Target on Monday and I'm hoping to get these going too.

What I'm Looking Forward To Next Month...
My parents are coming to visit.  Really, they just want to see the buddy.  Who can blame them.  I mean isn't he the best?  See, the chicks dig him.

What Else Is New...
I'm not sure if you have seen, but there have been some great new things coming out with Rodan + Fields.

First is our new Active Hydration Syrum that is coming soon!  I'm excited about this one.
I'm also excited about our spring special.  This is a limited time offer.  These Spring gifts will go quickly.  You can order one here or if you have any questions you can e-mail me at harrison.emily@me.com.

Bonus: What's Your Favorite Spring Wardrobe Piece?
I love all of the colorful sandals!

Show and Tell Tuesday: Top Five Pics

Happy Tuesday friends.  Today I am linking up with Andrea for Show and Tell Tuesday.  Today is our Top Five Pics of all time.

This is me and my brother Wesley.  I think this picture is perfect.  I have tried to convince my brother we should recreate this as adults.
This is actually my brother again.  This picture was taken on my first mission trip to Nicaragua.  I love that you can see the dirt on his hands from working but then the beauty that is him taking a moment to stop and sit with a precious little boy.

Trying to find a favorite of Carson was so hard.  However, this one captures his personality to me.  He does what he wants to do and he just has the cool factor.

This was our very first family photo.  I love it so much.  What a great day that was.

This one was a no brainer for me.  This is us on our first full day of our honeymoon in Charleston.  This is my absolute favorite and has been framed on my desk at work ever since.

Thanks for the link up Andrea and I'll see you all tomorrow for What's Up Wednesday.

Friday Favorites: Five Years

Happy Friday everyone!  Today begins DNow Weekend at our church which means we will be taking a great nap on Sunday.  I'm linking up with Andrea, Erika and Narci today for Friday Favorites.
I only have one favorite today and that is that today marks 5 years of marital bliss with this guy.
I can't believe it has already been 5 years.  We have laughed a lot, cried and I have loved this journey with you.  Being married to your best friend is pretty great.

These 5 years have included moving into two apartments and then to our house, job changes, job promotions, and a spunky 16 month old.  I can't imagine this journey with anyone else.
Happy Anniversary Greg.  I hope that we still have many more years to come.  Now, I need to find you a gift that includes wood because apparently wood is the gift you give at 5 years.

Flower Bed Help

Okay friends, I need your help.

It is about that time to get out and work in my flower beds.  Here is the problem, I'm terrible at it.  We have two bushes on the right side of the house that are huge and three on the left.  The two on the right are the same kind but the three on the left are all different looking.  The middle one on the left looks like it is not coming back because of some wind damage.

I'm wanting to rework the left side this spring and need some suggestions.

I would love to put a bird bath in there somewhere.  Let me know what you think.

On Monday I linked up with Erika and Shay for their Workin' It Wednesday post on work and home life balance.  I went back through and read several of the other posts and loved what I read.

There are some incredibly smart women out there and I wanted to share a few of the things that stuck out to me the most.  I hope these things encourage you as much as they have me this week.

OHIO: Only handle it once
I have heard this before but I guarantee there are people who have not.  This concept could make life much easier for all of us.  When we check the mail, throw away the junk mail right then.  When we have papers to fill out for our kids from school, fill them out right then and put them back in their bag.
When I get a note from Carson's teachers about him needing more diapers or wipes, I will grab a pack right then and there and set it by the door right away.   I know there are many other things in my day to day that would benefit from this idea.

Write Things Down
I'm a sucker for a good notepad so this one should be easy for me.  I try to leave a notepad on my desk, my nightstand, in the kitchen and in my car.  I often think of things and I know I will forget.  My favorite way to handle this looks like this...
Hey Siri, remind me to do _________ at ____ time.

Don't Compare
Guilty!  I know we all do this.  We think that so and so is doing a better job at meal planning, so and so rocks the carpool lane, so and so looks so put together ALL THE TIME.  We need to stop that right now.  We are never going to figure out balance in our life if we compare.  We have each been given specific responsibilities and the minute we start to compare our situation to someone else, the minute we have lost.  Mom guilt is the worst and we don't have time for it in our already crazy schedules.

Give yourself grace
We are going to mess up.  We are going to forget our kids lunch (our own lunch) and we are going to forget to move the laundry from the washing machine to the dryer.  Oh well, it happens.  Do not beat yourself up over it.   Give yourself grace and maybe some chocolate.

Thank you again Erika and Shay for the original link up on Monday.  I am so thankful for this blog community.

Life Lately

Happy Tuesday everyone!  I thought today would be a good day for a little life lately.

We have been reading books while we wait for the doctor to tell us our ears are infection free!
We are super serious while we play with the peg board at daycare.
We are rocking our winter gear for a little while longer.  I love his Arkansas hat.  It has a pocket, not sure why but it does.

We are having way too much fun with SnapChat filters.  You are going to jail little bunny.
We are getting used to haircut #3 while we enjoy our grilled cheese.
We are not sure where all the tacos went and refuse to smile for a picture with our friends at Taco Bell.
We like to show off how big we are looking in our 2T Mickey Mouse jammies.

We are also sad that Duke and Arkansas are no longer playing basketball.  March Madness is now sad at our house.

Workin It Wednesday on a Monday

Today is Workin' It Wednesday with Erika and Shay.  This post was originally supposed to be back on March 8th but was rescheduled for today.

Today is all about balancing work and home life.

This one is a constant work in progress for me.  I work full time outside of the home and then come home and chase around an almost 16 month old.  Life is crazy for us.  I also blog and I'm a consultant with Rodan + Fields.

I've learned a few things that work for me to keep my life balanced.  The biggest tip is to get up early.  It does not always happen at my house but I've noticed when I get up at 4:30 or by 5, that my day plays out much better.

I also make sure that I'm ready for the day before I wake up Carson.  This makes my life 100% better in the mornings.

We meal plan at our house.  I tend to meal plan on Wednesday and then shop on Friday for the upcoming week.  It is almost 6 by the time we get home each day, so we have limited time with Carson before he goes to bed so we try to make the most of our time with him each night.  Having our meals planned out saves precious time for us in the evenings.

I try to work on my Rodan + Fields work during my lunch breaks so that I'm not bringing work home at night.  Greg and I also go to the gym at different times and we try to go when Carson is asleep.

The biggest thing that I do is I'm up by 6am on Saturdays.  I know that gives me two hours almost before the boys get up to start laundry and any other Saturday projects I have planned.

I use my Erin Condren planner  to keep up with my day to day plans.  Greg and I also have a shared calendar on our iPhones so we can always see what the other one has going on.

We do not have it all figured out, but we are slowing figuring out what works and what doesn't for us.

Friday Favorites

Hello Friday, it is so nice to see you!  I'm all ready for Friday Favorites today with Andrea and for the weekend.

A few weeks ago, I made a Facebook post to sell pans of cinnamon rolls to raise money for my friends Cameron and Amy as they are trying to adopt a new baby.  I never dreamed that I would have sold so many pans.  This has been one of the coolest things I have been able to take part in for friends.  This weekend I will finish up the majority of those pans.  I will have made about 65 pans of cinnamon rolls.  Thank you so much to everyone who ordered a pan.   You can learn more about Cameron and Amy and their adoption here.  If you feel led to give, I know they would be so thankful.

My other favorite this week was all of the ideas for kids parties.  There are so many creative people.  I shared my favorite kids party that I have planned here for Show and Tell Tuesday.

I think everyone's favorite has been this incredibly perfect weather lately.  Who doesn't love 70 degree weather in March?  However, we have snow in our forecast for Sunday.  Yes, it is currently 75 degrees outside.

March Madness is almost here.  We have been watching the ACC & SEC tournaments.  I'm trying to think what kind of fun little contest Greg and I can have for our brackets.  I think it is time for all of us to get some new Duke shirts.

Sorry Carson, but I don't think your shirt from last year is going to fit you this year.

Speaking of Carson, he is always my favorite.  He has been so funny lately and I wrote a little update on him earlier this week.  Isn't he the best?  I think so.

Have a great weekend everyone.  If you need me you will find me making cinnamon rolls, or finally using my giftcard to Cheesecake Factory that we were supposed to use on my birthday or laughing at the fact that it is snowing in March.

I've also linked up for Five on Friday with April and Christina.

Top Three

A few weeks ago a friend of mine at work asked all of us to name our three favorite books of all time.  She told us that we could not say the Bible.  We work at a seminary and she wanted to see what books we all would say.  We could also pick a book series to count as one book if we wished.

Today, I thought I would share my three.

I was introduced to this book while I was in high school.  I've read this book many times since and I can honestly say that this book has helped shape my understanding of grace in ways that no other book has.
"Costly grace is the gospel which must be sought again and again, the gift which must be asked for, the door at which a man must knock.

Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, and it is grace because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ. It is costly because it costs a man his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life. It is costly because it condemns sin, and grace because it justifies the sinner. Above all, it is costly because it cost God the life of his Son: "ye were bought at a price," and what has cost God much cannot be cheap for us. Above all, it is grace because God did not reckon his Son too dear a price to pay for our life, but delivered him up for us. Costly grace is the Incarnation of God."

I love this series so much.  I'm already ready to start reading this to Carson.  These books are captivating as you read them.  It is so easy to place yourself in the story and in the world of Narnia.

This may seem like an odd choice but this book has been one of the most life changing books for me.  I grew up in church, went to a Christian college, and even took a few semesters in seminary.  However, this book changed how I viewed and ultimately understood Bible study.  I LOVE how Jen talks about to love God we must know God.  We can only know him by spending time with him and studying what he has said.  God has given us a mind and it is imperative that we study the Bible with our heart and with our mind.  I highly encourage everyone to read this book.

Let me know what your top three books would be.

Carson The Buddy

Happy Wednesday friends.  I thought today would be a good day for an update on Carson The Buddy.

Carson is now a little over 15 months old.  At his well check he weighed in at 25 pounds and 6.4 ounces.  He is 31.75 inches tall and his body is finally growing into his head.  Hooray!

Carson is Mr. Personality and Mr. Charmer.  He missed two days at daycare last week and when he returned on Thursday two of his little girlfriends were waiting at the gate for him.  He loves his friends.

We have one very active boy on our hands.  He moves constantly.  Maybe that is normal when your Dad is a drummer.  Neither one of them know how to sit still.  Carson loves his Mommy but man does he think his Daddy is the greatest.  The squeals that you hear when he sees Daddy will melt your heart.  They are best buddies.  Greg was made to be a Dad to a little man.  They play chase and rough house every day.
Carson is always running, climbing or doing things that boys do.  We have some mulch scratches to prove it.
We are also big fans of all of the animals.  Carson will point at the birds and look for dogs everywhere he goes.  He is also fond of bearded dragons too.
The way to make him happy is to just let him play outside.
He also won't say to no to running around and playing with bubbles or helping Dad find things for the yard at Home Depot.

Carson is also our little music lover.  Every Saturday when we walk into rehearsal he looks for Daddy and then he starts to dance.

We love our little buddy and are still trying to figure out the best way to keep this kid full.  He eats all of the time.
