Harrison Top Three

I began blogging to create a type of journal for myself.  Who knows what sort of social platforms we will have in 10 years or so but I wanted to be able to one day look back and see my life on paper (or blogspot).  Scrapbooking didn't work for me, so a blog was my solution.

I often share photos of myself and family on other social media outlets but I tend to forget that in a few years I may not remember what some of those pictures represented.

I saw on another blog the idea to share three things about each person in the family right now.  I loved the idea.  My plan is to periodically share our current top three.  The hope is that for me it allows me to see the things that are important and happening to us now.

1 - Toes!  Carson is all about the toes.  He loves to reach for them and just hold on to them.

2 - Carson is so alert.  He is aware when you leave the room, he wants to know where everyone is all of the time.  You walk in to his daycare and immediately looks all around to see what is going on.  Apparently he takes after his Mom.

3 - Carson is beginning to watch us as we eat our food.  I think fruits and vegetables will be making an appearance for this guy sooner than I would like.

1 - Greg is getting ready at work for a busy few months.  Summer is a busy time in the HVAC industry.

2 - Greg is all about some cashews.  We bought a big container of them the other day and I'm pretty sure they will be gone within a day or so.

3 - Greg is fighting allergies.  The yellow cloud that takes over the state of North Carolina has hit him the hardest in our house.

1 - I'm ready for Season 2 of Fixer Upper to hit Netflix.  Come on Friday.  Dear Joanna, please come to my house and make it beautiful.

2 - The spring cleaning bug has hit me.  I'm ready to purge my house.  Watch out boys, Momma is going to be busy.

3 - I have been on a new recipe kick lately and would love to try more.  I have lots of ideas on Pinterest but would love some ideas that people have actually tried.

See you tomorrow for Friday Favorites!

What's Up Wednesday: March

How is it almost April already?  This year is flying by.

I'm linking up with Mel, Shay and Sheaffer today for What's Up Wednesday.

Here we go...

What We're Eating This Week...
Monday: Teriyaki Chicken & Rice
Tuesday: I ate something quick before my work event and Greg made lots of shrimp.  I'm not a shrimp person so he enjoyed lots of shrimp without me.
Wednesday: Roasted Chicken and Veggies
Thursday: Pan Fried Cod and Roasted Potatoes
Friday: Pork Filled Dumplings

What I'm Reminiscing About...
Last Thursday was our 4 year anniversary so my Timehop this week has had a lot of honeymoon pictures from our time in Charleston.

What I'm Loving...
Carson at this age.  He is changing every day.  I know he has been doing that since day 1 but I feel like lately there have been major developmental changes on a daily basis.

What We've Been Up To...
We had a busy Easter weekend so we have been trying to get back into a normal routine these last few days.

What I'm Dreading...
Teething.  We have had lots of drool lately and I think we are about to have some teeth pop through in the next few weeks.  Who knows but I'm not looking forward to it.

What I'm Working On...
My Spring Cleaning plan.  I have a few closets I want to work on.  I have lots of Pampered Chef items that I got when I was a consultant and so many of them are still in boxes.  I need to see what I have that I want and maybe sell the rest.

What I'm Watching/Reading...
Greg is preparing for our D-Now in a few weeks so he is reading As You Go by our friend Dr. Reid.  I've been reading Give Them Grace lately.  I'm really enjoying it.

We have been watching a lot of March Madness lately.  If our TV is on that is more than likely why.

What I'm Listening To...
Nothing new here.  I need to find a good spring playlist.

What I'm Wearing...
Lots of cardigans.  It has been chilly in the morning and a little warmer in the afternoon so it makes for an easy piece to wear to work.  I'm ready for constant sandal weather though.

What I'm Doing This Weekend...
Greg has already ordered Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens.  I have a feeling our Friday night is going to be a date at home watching Star Wars with some popcorn.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month...
We are going to see All Sons & Daughters in concert in April.  We have been looking forward to this for a while.

What Else is New...
If the weather cooperates I hope to work outside some soon.  I'm ready to have my bird feeders up and some pretty flowers in front of my house.

Bonus: What's My Favorite Spring Cleaning Tip...
Just say no.  If I haven't worn it in a year, get rid of it.  If I haven't used it in a year, get rid of it.

Liebster Award: Part 2

Last week I was nominated for the Liebster Award by Rachel and Sara.

I promised to try and keep my post about the Liebster Award short last week and so today I'm going to finish the post up.

Again, thank you to Rachel and Sara for the Liebster Award nomination.

Weekend Recap: Easter

Back to normal people, well sort of.  Many people are still out of school but it is back to work for Greg and I after our 3 1/2 day weekend.  We loved our extra long weekend with our family but I think we are more tired today than we were on Thursday.

Thursday was our 4 year wedding anniversary.  We decided to take a 1/2 day at work and celebrate.  We went to lunch at The Cheesecake Factory.  Allow me to show you my two favorite parts...

Yes, I will have all the bread and cheesecake please.

I am so thankful for my sweet husband.

After lunch we headed to see Carson at his daycare and take part in his Easter Egg Hunt.  He tried and he would grab an egg and just hold it.  Okay maybe he would try and put the egg in his mouth, but he loved being outside.

So sweet.

As all anniversaries do, we ended our day at Target buying groceries.  What love.  On the way home we picked up a sandwich at Charron's Deli in Youngsville.  If you have not tried it and you live close, you should.  So tasty.

Friday we went to our Good Friday Communion service at church and then to lunch at Olive Garden with Greg's family.  Someones nap schedule was thrown off all weekend and the only nap he took Friday was during the service.

Saturday we went to the block party at church.  Little man slept through most of it but he did manage to enjoy the fresh air and the end of it.

I love how our church serves the community each year through our Easter Block Party and Harvest Festival.  Carson was a little mad that he couldn't enjoy the food trucks like Mom and Dad.  Maybe you can have a dumpling next year buddy.

That afternoon we rested some and watched a little basketball.  Someone learned that he likes his thumb.  He also decided to sport some Arkansas gear.

Multiple outfit changes in one day when you drool 100% of the day.

We woke up Sunday morning on the wrong side of the bed apparently.  I will spare you those pictures.  He did love his Easter basket and was excited to sport his little tie to church to celebrate the Risen Savior.

We had a wonderful Easter weekend but we are wore out!

Have a great week everyone!

I'd Like to Thank...

I'd like to thank the academy, I mean I would like to thank my fellow bloggers.  I've been nominated for the Liebster Award.

I was actually nominated by two different people.  Thank you Sara and thank you Rachel from Coffee Stains & Growing Pains Blog.

Sara's Questions for Me

Why did you start blogging?   (Rachel asked this too)
I started blogging because I had no desire to scrapbook and journaling never worked for me.  Blogging was my way to keep track of things in my life for myself.

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Detailed.  Punctual.  Compassionate.

What is your favorite song right now?
I have been listening to Remember off of the new Passion album a lot lately.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I would love to have another little munchkin to chase around.

Who is your biggest blog inspiration?
I have probably followed Kelly's Korner Blog the longest but I love the Mix and Match Mama.  I look forward to both of her blogs each day.

Have you ever traveled, if so where?
I have been to a small village in Nicaragua and Cape Town, South Africa.  They were both mission trips.

Would you encourage your friends to start a blog and why/why not?
Yes!  I love blogging and for me it has been wonderful.  It has allowed me to share my life with friends and family who I do not get to talk to often.  It allows them to see what is new in my life.

What social media platforms to you use to promote your blog content?
I have a Facebook page for my blog and I use Twitter.

What is your favorite movie of all time? (Rachel asked this too)
I would have to say Forrest Gump.  I can watch it over and over.

How long have you been blogging for?
I started blogging in 2010.

What do you do in your spare time, besides blogging? (Rachel asked this too)
I hang out with my husband Greg and my little munchkin Carson.
Rachel's Questions for Me
(3 of her 11 questions are answered above)
What is your favorite TV show?
I feel like everyone knows this answer for me

If I were to send you on all expenses paid vacation for you and your family for two weeks, where would you go?
I would love to explore Western Europe.
What song would be the theme song for the soundtrack of your life?
This one made me think.  I shared this song on my Show and Tell Tuesday post the other day but I might have to say Can't Go Back Now by The Weepies.

What's your favorite beauty product?
The Mary Kay Satin Hands set is wonderful.  I love the peach scent.

If you could only read one book for the rest of your life {excluding the Bible}, which book would you choose?
This one.  It changed how I do Bible Study.
What is your favorite time of the year?  Why?
I love Christmas.  It really is the most wonderful time of the year.  I love the meaning of Christmas and I love to see the wonder that Christmas brings to so many.
What scripture is your life verse?
I repeat to myself often Psalm 46:10.  I stay so busy that I often need to tell myself to simply Be Still and know that he is God.
Who has had the biggest influence on your life?
My Mom.  She challenges me, laughs with or at me (who knows) and just is there for me.

Here are my 11 random facts about myself...
  1. I write things on my to do list to just cross them off, only sometimes.
  2. I only like pink Starbursts.  Don't waste my time with the others.
  3. I check my bank account every day.

  5. I only used colored pens in my Erin Condren planner.  It keeps life bright and fun.
  6. I used to think I would become an Olympic Figure Skater, however I can't ice skate.
  7. I try and figure out how to put cheese in 90% of my recipes.
  8. Sometimes I find excuses to eat chocolate chip cookies for breakfast.  My Mom taught me that.
  9. I could eat chips and salsa everyday.
  10. Baked potatoes are my comfort food.  If in doubt, get me a baked potato with butter, sour cream, cheese, salt and lots of black pepper.
  11. My name is Emily and I might be a Pinterest addict.

Wow that was long but I'll see you early next week for Part 2 where I nominate some new bloggers.

Follow Me

This past Sunday we worked through the beginning of Acts 2 in our small groups at church.  Lucky for me, I get to hear the lesson twice every week.  The first is in our adult small group and the second being when we meet with our middle schoolers.  It is nice to be able to hear the same passage two times and both times are a little different.

This particular lesson had me thinking the entire time about a different passage.  My favorite passage in all of Scripture is John 21.  This passage to me shows love in a way that many of us have trouble understanding.  It is beautiful and it is difficult.  This passage is a conversation between Jesus and Peter.  Yes, Peter.  The same Peter who in previous passages has said things that you know he regrets.  The same Peter who had just recently denied this Jesus three times.  Yet, in this passage he is restored.  He is not just restored but he is given a mission and a purpose.

Then you have Acts 2.  Look at verse 14.
But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them...

Peter in John 21 is asked three times by Jesus, "do you love me?"  And three times he says yes.  The third time it says he is grieved when answering.  Peter in that moment realizes what Jesus is doing.  He realizes that this Jesus not only forgives him, he loves him and he has a plan for him.  This plan is not easy, this plan is not going to look like what Peter has thought of.  This plan is ultimately going to cost him his life.

Jesus concludes this whole passage with two words, Follow Me.

I read acts 2 differently yesterday.  Peter remembered what he had been told just a few weeks ago and he obeys.

Thank you Jesus for doing the same thing for us today.  We screw up and we do it often.  But you forgive us, you restore us and ultimately you ask us to follow you.  You ask us to do things that don't make sense to us, things that scare us and things that we often do not want to do.  However, you tell us it is worth it.  You tell us that you have gone before us and that you have sent the Spirit to walk with us.

Carson the 4 Month Old

How in the world are you already 4 months old?  Well technically, you are 4 months and 1 day.

Yesterday was also the anniversary of the day that your Dad and I found out about you.  That's right.  We finished up D-Now weekend, had Kanki for an early anniversary date, took a nap and then we found out that you were on the way.  We contemplated taking the test before our nap but we were so tired from D-Now that we thought we needed a nap first.  Sorry buddy, but sometimes naps are a priority.

Moving on, here is what is new with you buddy.
You are becoming a little more round.  That's right, you don't miss a meal.  You are all about a good bottle.  You are now having all 6 oz bottles and you have them every 3 1/2 hours during the day.  We like our schedule buddy.  The doctor said on Monday that you weigh 13 lbs and 11.5 ounces.  You are in the 16th percentile in weight.  Your length puts you in the 33rd percentile at 24.75 inches.  Your head is on the large side.  You can blame your Dad for that one buddy.  The circumference of it is 42.5 cm putting you in the 78th percentile.

You sleep from about 8:30 at night until we wake you at 6 to feed you.  Nicely done.

You have recently discovered your ability to grab things and hold on to them.  You like to grab your little teether toys and your mini stuffed animals.  Of course as soon as you grab them they end up in your mouth.

You LOVE to be outside.  You do not like when your teachers make you come inside during the day.

You are still as happy as can be when you are on the changing pad.  In fact that is where you gave us your first real laugh the other day.

You are rocking out the size 2 diapers and wear 3-6 month clothes.

You like to stand up and hold our hands.  Sometimes if you are really happy you will take a little step.  Translation buddy, you like to move.  Your Dad is convinced that you will skip crawling and just walk.  Please buddy, do not let your Dad be right.  He is right way too much as it is.

You love bath time because it means more time to kick and play.

Thanks for keeping us on our toes buddy.  We love you more every day and are honored to be your parents.

Show and Tell Tuesday: Life Soundtrack

It's Show and Tell Tuesday over on Momfessionals and today is all about the mix tape of our life.  Some of these are oh so cheesy and some of them are not on here because I couldn't find the video I wanted.  Regardless, enjoy some crazy.

I Want It That Way
This is the song that I think about for my pre-teen years.  You could probably add a few other Backstreet Boys songs or even a few N*Sync ones and you would be on track.

I still crack up at how much I loved, who am I kidding, still love this song.  Hello middle school years.

Dare You To Move
I think this is a fitting song for my high school years.

Learning to Fly
This is probably one of my favorite songs and it is a perfect song to describe some of those college years.

Marry Me
This song is so special.  I loved that I walked down the aisle to this song.

These last few were songs that I feel like should be in my life soundtrack.  They are ones that at various times and seasons have been on repeat.

Can't Go Back Now

See you in a few weeks for the next Show and Tell Tuesday.

Weekend Recap

It's Monday and it's cold.  Boo.  Apparently it is officially spring now but North Carolina did not get the memo.  It is freezing outside.

We had a relaxing weekend which was just what we needed.

Little buddy had a great 1st St. Patrick's Day.  He also rocked out the green.  Those eyes are going to get me in big trouble.

He also is turning in to quite the artist.

We decided to grill on Friday before it turned cold on Saturday.  There is something about a hot dog and a burger grilled over some charcoal.  Yummy.  After dinner we assembled this little beauty.

Little buddy is not quite tall enough for it but he likes to look at all of the fun shapes and colors.

Greg and I agonized over our bracket busters all weekend.  We knew we should have had more confidence in Duke.  Boo on us.

Carson has come a long way in his playing lately.  He is now interested in grabbing everything.

He hasn't learned that his stuffed monkey is not food though.  Everything goes straight in the mouth.

Today we have his 4 month well check.  I'm so curious how he has grown in the last 2 months.

Have a great week everyone!

For a chance to win a Target gift card, head over to The Larson Lingo.  Who doesn't love a good Target gift card?

Friday Favorites

It's Friday people!  I'm excited and this time next week will be a perfect 3 day weekend with my people celebrating Easter.  Bring on the countdown.  Today though is all about my Friday Favorites with Andrea, Erika, and Narci.

I shared our precious family photos the other day and they are hands down my favorite from this week.  I mean, who doesn't love a sweet little 3 month (almost 4 month) baby in some suspenders.

Work it buddy!  Thanks again to Lister Photography for these.

Monday, I talked about my grocery list nerdiness at Target and all of the feedback was wonderful!  A couple of people reminded me about the Ebates app as well.  I have had Ebates for a while but the Mommy Brain in me forgets to use it often.  If you don't have it, you should check it out here.

Greg and I talked more times than we care to admit about what we would do with little buddy when I went back to work.  We talked about finding a Mom who watches kids in her home or the traditional daycare route.  We ended up choosing a traditional daycare and we could not be happier about that choice.  Carson LOVES his little daycare and his teachers love him and his dreamy hair.  I could not be more thankful for the sweet ladies that love on him every day.  He is pretty excited to rock his little Easter Egg Hunt next week too.  You better believe that Greg and I will be there to see a 4 month old collect some eggs or maybe we will show him how it's done.

For the last couple of weeks, we have been prepping meals over the weekend to help make our evenings go a little smoother.  Tuesday, Shay posted a recipe that I plan to prep this weekend for one night next week.  It looks wonderful!  Thank you Mix and Match Mama for always providing great dinner ideas.

The recipe that Greg wants to try is Chicken Bacon Alfredo Roll Ups.  I had them at a lunch last week and he has asked that I make them soon.

Yes, we like pasta in our house.

Have a great weekend everyone.  I'll be at home in a pasta coma apparently.
