Let's Talk Summer Plans

Today is all about our summer plans for the Let's Talk Link Up with Andrea and Erika.

We tend to take vacations in cooler months so we don't have too many big travel plans for the summer but I know we will do little things here and there.  After all this is Carson's first summer.

We are just two hours from the beach so I have a feeling we will make a few day trips to the beach.  I mean what is cuter than a little buddy with his toes in the sand.

I told Greg that we need to take Carson to Pullen Park this summer.  I have a feeling he will love going there.

I mean little boys and trains.  Say no more.

There is also a great place right down the street from us called Hillridge Farms.

We do plan to go visit my family in Tennessee in July.  Carson is looking forward to meeting his great grandparents and lots of family.

We bought a little Mickey Mouse pool.  I can't wait to see that cutie in his swim trunks in his little pool.

Come on summer!

Here is what to look forward to for upcoming Let's Talk Link Ups.

Friday Favorites

It's Friday and it is the beginning of a 3 day weekend!  Hallelujah!

I'm linking up with Andrea, Erika and Narci for Friday Favorites.

{One}
We now have a 6 month old in our house.  He is keeping us on our toes but he is so much fun.  He is learning and he knows that he is the cutest thing.

{Two}
We have had perfect weather this week and after all of the rain we have had it is has been perfect.  We have been grilling machines this week.

Tuesday night we grilled pineapple with a little cinnamon.  If that is not a great summer dessert, I don't know what is.

{Three}
It is no secret that I'm not quite as dark as Carson.  Okay, okay.  I'm so fair.  I recently bought some Rodan & Fields Sunless Tanner and I'm excited about it for this summer.  It is a major FAVORITE.

{Four}
For the past few months I have had to change my shampoo/conditioner routine.  My scalp was having some reactions to various shampoos.  I have tried two new shampoos and I think I may try one more to see which is working the best.

But, my FAVORITE has been this dry shampoo.  I saw Shay post about it a few weeks ago on her Friday Favorites and I immediately ordered it.  It is fantastic.  I highly recommend it.  Plus it smells wonderful.  I am hoping to get a few more shampoo recommendations too.

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend and I'll see you on Monday for the Let's Talk Link Up with Andrea and Erika

Life Lately

Summer is coming and life lately has been all about getting ready for summer.  Summer clothes, grilling and lots of play time.

The two boys had their guy day on Monday.  Greg took off work to hang out with Carson before his well check.  Carson helped his Daddy get the chicken in the brine before grilling.

He also practiced his sitting while his Dad got ready.

He may have practiced some piano too.

Tuesday we had dinner with our friends Crescen and Stephen.  They are just a few weeks away from meeting their sweet little girl.  Greg grilled and even grilled some pineapple with cinnamon sprinkled on it for dessert.  It was so yummy!

Someone also tried water this week and we may need to work on the sippy cup use a little more.

We are all excited about our weekend and lots of time with our friends.

What's Up Wednesday: May

Happy Wednesday Friends!  Today I'm linking up with Mel, Shay and Sheaffer for What's Up Wednesday.

What We're Eating This Week...
We are grilling this week!  We have had constant rain for I don't know how long so we are enjoying the sun and firing up the charcoal.  Monday night we grilled chicken and corn on the cob.  Tuesday we grilled chicken again and a basket full of squash, zucchini, peppers, onion and tomatoes.  Yummy.

What I'm Reminiscing About...
We take the month pictures each month to see how much Carson changes.  I can't believe that Carson used to look so small.  How has it been half a year already?

What I'm Loving...
Carson just hit 6 months this past Sunday.  His personality is blossoming like crazy.  He is such a ham and he knows it.  He is the life of the party at our house and I LOVE it.

What We've Been Up To...
We have tried our first attempt at growing some things.  I am not a green thumb, I most definitely have a black thumb.  Everything I plant dies and it dies quickly.  We have started small.  We planted two little plants.  One that has garlic and one that has basil.  We will see how they go.  I'm excited to see what we get.  Come on green thumb.

What I'm Dreading...
We have been trying to stain our deck for what seems like an eternity.  We have had so much rain that we hope to do it soon.  I know our weather is about to be cooperative and I'm not really excited about the process of power washing the deck and then staining it.  It needs to be done though.

What I'm Working On...
Carson just hit the 6 month mark.  I've been working on getting all of his old clothes put away and his new clothes washed and put in his dresser.  This boy is growing like crazy.

What I'm Excited About...
I'm actually excited for summer.  I'm not a fan of the heat but we have some fun little plans for the little guy and his first summer.  I see lots of smiles and laughing in my future.

What I'm Watching/Reading...
I have been watching the Western Conference Playoffs.  Come on Thunder!

I recently finished The Nesting Place.  If you have not read it, I highly recommend it.  It is easily the best book I have read in a long time.

I have started reading the new book by Annie Downs called Looking for Lovely

What I'm Listening To...
I have had this song on repeat a lot lately.  We sang it at church a few weeks ago and I can't get it out of my head.

What I'm Wearing...
This is the hardest time of year in the world for me clothes wise.  It is getting warm outside but I freeze inside at work.  Lots of jeans lately with layers on top.  Lots and lots of sandals though.

What I'm Doing This Weekend...
This weekend is all about the Memorial Day Cookouts!  We have two this weekend.  Summer is just around the corner.

What I'm Looking Forward To Next Month...
 I am looking forward to the debut of the new Erin Condren Life Planners for 2016-2017.  So many options and I know I will be ordering one soon!

What Else Is New...
Not a single thing.  We have been business as usual around our house.  Work, daycare, hanging out, and church.  We love our quiet little life.

Bonus:  What I'm Looking Forward To This Summer
I am looking forward to some special time with my family this summer.  Lots of playing outside, maybe a beach trip or two, and finding plenty of excuses to make our fruit pizza.

The One with the 6 Month Old

Carson, you are 6 months old.  Well, 6 months and 2 days.

Time is flying by buddy.  You crack us up each and every day.  Your Daddy and I are thrilled that we get to be your parents.  We love you so much.

Here is what's new with you buddy...

You weigh in at 16 lbs and 6 oz which puts you in the 27th percentile.  You are 26 inches tall which puts you in the 23rd percentile and your head is 43.25 cm which puts you in the 47 percentile.  Yes your height and weight have not caught up with your head yet.  That just means you are super smart.

Overnight last week you became a champ at sitting up.  You went from wobbly sitting to sitting tall and happy within hours.  Way to go.  You have rolled over a few times but you could care less about it.  You think you have done it so why keep doing it.  You are ready for the next thing.

You are a bouncing champion.  You were in your jumper for at least 30 minutes last night jumping away which is impressive when just 4 hours prior you had two shots.  I guess you wanted to work out some of the stiffness.

You love to play in your exersaucer, reach for and eat your toes, you love to pat everyone, and you love your two little friends at daycare.  Your teacher calls you her little Romeo.  That is what happens when you are with girls all day buddy.

You still love to be outside and we are excited to get you in the pool this summer.

Your appetite is growing like crazy.  You love bananas and sweet potatoes.  You like your pears and squash.  Today we are trying out the applesauce for the first time.  I'm sure you will like it.  You know when it is time for your bottle and you try to grab it from us before we even sit down.

You my sweet boy are a true joy and I love watching you grow each month.  Your personality is BIG and you know it.  Love you little munchkin.

Cream of Confession

In case you do not know I am a southern girl.  Translation is that many of the recipes I grew up eating had cream of .... soup in them.  Cream of chicken or cream of mushroom were the two most often used at our house.  Sometimes you would find a cream of celery soup in our house.

I know what you are going to say and you are right.  They are probably not the best choices for our diets.  So many of the recipes that I love and consider some great comfort food include those bad for me soups.

Enter Pinterest.  Pinterest has made my life easier and more difficult over the last few years.  A few months ago I searched for homemade cream of ... soup.  Low and behold I found hundreds of pins.

The last few times I have made some sort of casserole, I have made my own cream of ... soup.  I am not a big mushroom fan so I do not make a cream of mushroom soup.  Most of the time I stir in some sauteed onion to mine to give the soup a little onion flavor and then add it to my casserole.

This route takes a little more time and a little more effort than popping the top off of your handy Campbells can but so far I like knowing that I have a little more control over what I'm feeding my family.

Have any of you made your own cream of .... soup?  It's quite easy.  I guarantee you have all of the ingredients already in your pantry.  My favorite part is it is so easy to customize based on what you are adding it to.  Happy cooking everyone.

Weekend Recap

Oh yay Monday.  Insert sarcasm here.  I enjoyed my weekend with my boys.  I love my job but Monday mornings come way too fast.  I laughed when I saw this on Instagram yesterday.  True story.

We had a great weekend.  Friday was Uncle Josh's birthday.  Carson was excited to go have cake and ice cream, I mean watch us eat cake and ice cream.  Sadly he fell asleep shortly before we were supposed to leave and we didn't have the heart to wake him up so close to his bottle and bedtime.  Greg went and ate the cake for us.  He's a keeper I know.

Saturday morning we were out and about by 7:00 a.m.  Greg hadn't tried Stewart's Bistro yet in Wake Forest.  It seemed like the perfect day for it.

My boys were ready for breakfast.

Carson enjoyed sitting in the high chair and looking all big and tough.  I mean cute not tough.

 Dad, where is my almond latte?

After breakfast we hit up Home Depot.  We are planning to stain our deck, plant a few flowers, and try to grow some herbs.  Honesty time, plants do not last at my house.  I try, believe me I try.  The fact that I still have two plants alive inside my house is a miracle.  They both came to our house shortly after Carson was born.  That is growth people.  We are going to try to have a small basil plant and a small chive plant.  We will see.

Are we done shopping yet, Mom?  I think you have many more Home Depot trips in your future buddy.

Carson went home and watched The Peanuts Movie while Dad mowed and Mom cleaned the house a little.  Let's be honest, Mom made chocolate chip cookies because Sunday was National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day.

My brother gave Greg his electric drum kit.  Greg practiced a little Saturday afternoon and Carson decided to join in on the fun.

Check out our little family selfie before church.

We went to a graduation party after church and came home to see this.

I think that is sign of a good but busy weekend.

Happy Monday everyone.  I hope you all had a great weekend too.

Friday Favorites: Random Style

It's Friday.  At least I think it is.

I'm linking up with Andrea, Erika and Narci today for Friday Favorites.

 {ONE}
THIS blogpost this week is one of my favorites.  Carson is almost 6 months old and he is my only child.   I know that I am by no means a Mom expert but this blogpost was too good not to share.  My friend Amy wrote it.  I chose to put Carson in daycare when he was 10 weeks.  I chose to bottle feed him from day one.  I know there are people who will tell me that I'm doing it wrong.  However, I believe 110% that I am doing what is best for my son and what is best for my family.  I have to daily tell myself that the enemy is not going to win.  His lies get in my head and I have to daily trust in the Lord to guide me.  I also have to daily tell myself that God gave Carson to Greg and I.  He chose for us to be the ones to raise him not anyone else.  Thank you Amy for this post.  It makes me sad at how much "Mom Bullying" exists.  Being a Mom is one of the hardest things in the world and a little more encouragement between all of us would go a long way.

Side note, there are so many great posts on this blog.  Check out The Perch Blog.  I know you won't regret it.

{TWO}
I have talked often about all of the shopping and rebate apps that are available.  If you shop at Target one of my favorites is Target RedPerks.  Every 5,000 points you receive a reward.  It used to be a 5% off shopping day which was nice.  Recently they have started letting you chose your reward.  On my last reward I chose the $5 giftcard option.  Most of my purchases are less than a $100 so the giftcard was a better deal for me.  This time my reward was this...

That's right, free laundry detergent.  I was able to pick ANY bottle of detergent I wanted that was $15 or less and it was FREE.  I know, I know.  I just got excited about laundry detergent but it was definitely a FAVORITE this week.

{THREE}
I feel like my random style theme for today should be Random Style Mommy Edition.  I know all of you are going to want this.

Hello Chick-fil-A.  Yes, I would love to order my Spicy Chicken Biscuit and Dr. Pepper ahead of time for carry out.  This app may or may not get many of us in trouble.  I know there are many bad things about technology, but this is not one of them.

{FOUR}
It is hard to believe that in less than 10 days we will have a 6 month old at our house.  He looks like such a little man to me lately.  He is sitting well and he is liking rolling over.  He loves bananas and sweet potatoes.  He is growing too fast.  He also knows he is cute.  We are in BIG TROUBLE people.  He has us figured out.

Carson you are my FAVORITE.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hello Cookies

Maybe it is just me but I'm thinking not, chocolate chip cookies might be one of the greatest things of all time.  I love them.  I always have.

My parents were in town over the weekend and it only seemed fitting for my Mom and I to make some cookies.  Yes we made a cake for Mother's Day but just because we made chocolate chip cookies.

Growing up there were plenty of times that we may or may not have had chocolate chip cookies for breakfast.  My Mom doesn't like coffee so most mornings she would have a Sun Drop in the morning and if by chance we had some cookies she may have one of them as well.  I am the same way.  I do like coffee but it is not something that I have to have every day.  I would much rather have a ice cold Dr. Pepper poured over a glass full of ice.

My Mom and I agreed that over the weekend Carson should experience the joy of cookie making.  He sat in his little bumbo and watched the whole experience.  He loved it.  He also wanted to try some dough.  I didn't see any problem with it, his Dad would have a different idea.  No, I didn't give him any.  Relax people.

I think this was one of my favorite things of the weekend.  Time with my Mom doing something we both love and then letting the little buddy take part too.  I see lots of baking in the future for Carson and I.  He will make a great taste tester for me.

Stranded With: My Book Choices

Today I'm linking up with Erika and Shay for the Stranded With Monthly Link Up.  I missed the last one but I am excited to join in this month.

This month is our three books we would take if we were stranded on a deserted island.

Here goes...

One: The Bible
The Bible is the one book that has changed my life.  Every time I pick it up and read from it I am blessed, challenged, and encouraged.

Two: The Chronicles of Narnia Series by C.S. Lewis
I know, I know this is not one book.  Lucky for me I have a copy that has all of them together and bound in one book.  So, technically it could count as one book right?

Three: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
I struggled with my third choice but I find myself always wanting to go back and read this book again.

I'm excited to see what all of you come up with.  Maybe I will find some new books to read.

Below are the three things for the rest of the year.

Weekend Recap: Mother's Day Style

I am exhausted.  These last few days have been full and I am very much looking forward to getting back in my routine.  We had an extended weekend and it was wonderful.

My parents came to visit and pulled in last Thursday night about the time that Greg and I got home from our Middle School Leader Dinner at church.  We let Carson get in a few snuggles and then it was off to bed for him.

Friday we all relaxed at the house.  Carson also worked on his chocolate chip cookie recipe.  He said the trick is to use more brown sugar than what the recipe calls for.

That night we all had dinner out with my Dads cousin Bill at Carolina Ale House.  Someone enjoyed trying to sit in a high chair.  We had to add some extra blankets to it so he could be tall enough in it.  He was so alert and wanted to watch everything and everyone.

Saturday was more relaxing and a quick trip to Target where Carson convinced the grandparents he needed a new toy.  That night was his baby dedication at church.  I loved that both of our parents were able to be there.   After we had a yummy family dinner at Shuckers.  FYI, you can never go wrong with hushpuppies and a brownie that has a warm cinnamon sauce with candied pecans on top.

Sunday was a laid back my Mother's Day and it was perfect.  Greg and my Dad grilled and everything was delicious.  That night my Dad watched Carson while Greg and I treated my Mom to her Mother's Day present...Captain America.  All three of us loved it but getting home at 11:30 was a bit much for this girl.

Carson enjoyed his time with Mimi and Grandpa on Monday while Dad went back to work and Mom took a half day.

Back to normal today after a great first Mother's Day with my two favorite boys.
