Friday Favorites

Hey Friday!  Thanks for coming.  As always, I'm linking up with Andrea, Erika and Narci for Friday Favorites.
Favorite #1 was an easy choice this week!

I am so excited about the return of Gilmore Girls.  I was hoping for a November 22nd release date.  I mean what Mom doesn't want a present for herself on her sons first birthday but I'll take a few days later.  Hello new Black Friday tradition.

Favorite #2 has been the beginning stages of prep for the little man and his 1st birthday party.  I know that his birthday is in November but because it falls on Thanksgiving week, I know it will be crazy.  Watch out Pinterest, we are going to be having a train themed 1st birthday party.  If you have great train theme ideas let me know.

Favorite #3 this week was Christy Nockels announcement of her first solo Christmas album.  I love her voice and I am excited about this one.

I hope you all have a great weekend.  I'm going to try and not melt tonight at the Durham Bulls game.

What's Up Wednesday: July

It's the last Wednesday of the month so it is time for What's Up Wednesday with Mel, Shay, and Sheaffer.  How is today the last Wednesday of July.  It is almost August.  That means I have just a little over a month before the fall decorations come out!
Each month we answer these questions.  Come join in on the fun.
 What We're Eating This Week...
We have tried to limit our oven use this week.
This week is going to be Sesame Chicken with Rice, Grilled BBQ Chicken on our Grill Pan inside, Spaghetti, and Baseball Cuisine of Hotdogs and Peanuts.

What I'm Reminiscing About...
My Timehop this past week has been all about my trip to Cape Town back in 2011.  This is hands down the best mission trip I've been on.

What I'm Loving...
We love this stage with Carson.  His personality is growing every day and he is becoming more and more mobile.

What We've Been Up To...
Last week was Live Love Serve at our church.  It is a week long mission trip to our community.  We had a food drive, a Free Pizza night, and a Food & Clothing Giveaway.  My friend Gia of Lister Photography made this great video of the week.  We love our church.

What I'm Dreading...
We are still in the middle of this heat wave.  This is the worst part of summer.  I'm over it.  By 6:30 I am exhausted and just want to lay on my bed with 5 fans going.

What I'm Working On...
Carson's 1st Birthday is in just a few months.  I have been thinking of what we want to do for his first party.  If you have any great boy 1st birthday party themes for Thanksgiving Week let me know.

What I'm Excited About...
I'm excited thinking about fall.  Pumpkin, cooler temps, football, pumpkin, candy corn, soups, and more pumpkin.

What I'm Watching/Reading...
We haven't been watching much lately.  We are ready for the Olympics and football to be back on TV.

I've been reading Chasing God by Angie Smith and None Like Him by Jen Wilkin.

What I'm Listening To...
I have been listening to a few songs on repeat.
Holy Spirit both the Francesca Battistelli version and the Elevation Church version
I also keep singing O Praise the Name by Hillsong Worship

If I'm being honest, I've also been celebrating Christmas in July with some Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole.  Maybe a little Carpenters thrown in too.

What I'm Wearing...
Shorts, shorts and more shorts.  It is so hot outside.  I bought several pairs at Target earlier this summer.  I'm loving the new summer cut too because my hair feels so much lighter.

What I'm Doing This Weekend...
Greg and I are going to a Durham Bulls baseball game with our small group.  It's going to be hot, but we will have a lot of fun.  Here we are last summer at a Bulls game.

What I'm Looking Forward To Next Month...
What Else Is New...
Not much.  We are trying to survive summer.

Bonus Question: What Was Your Favorite Part of Summer...
I love the slow pace of summer.  Once August hits my schedule seems to get a lot more hectic.

Weekend Recap: Stay Inside Edition

In case you are not aware, it is hot outside.  I have two very dark boys in my house, but this pale skinned Momma does not like to be in the sun too much.  I am liking my new Rodan and Fields sunscreen for when I do decide to go outside.  My friend Jaime can help you out if you have any R&F needs.  We spent the majority of our weekend inside.  We ventured out for church on Saturday and Sunday and that was about it.

Friday night was a  favorite in our house.  We made our favorite pork dumplings with teriyaki dipping sauce.  Our recipe makes 48 dumplings using the won ton wrappers we get.  We made some steamed rice with them on Friday.  We had some extra rice and filling on Friday so Saturday night we browned the rest of the pork filling and made pork fried rice.  We finished up the dumplings on Sunday for lunch.  Three meals out of one is a win in my book.  I'm sure we could stretch the dumplings out a little bit more but sometimes you just want to eat 12 at a time.  I try to be honest.

Saturday morning had Carson and I out the door early.  I was getting my haircut at 8 am and Carson was going to play with the son of my hairstylist.  Aren't they cute?  They are 11 days apart.  They talked to each other the whole time.

When we got home, Greg was mowing.  Carson and I decided to tackle some cleaning and laundry.  He also was pretty happy about his mail. We signed Carson up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.  We love when we get books in the mail.

After church on Sunday, someone was wanting to practice his pulling up skills.  He is growing up so fast.

We spent the evening hanging out and doing some WiiFit.  I'm determined to stay in shape when it feels like 108 outside.
See you tomorrow for What's Up Wednesday!

8 Months of Carson

Carson is now 8 months old.  I know he will be 1 before I know it.  Time goes so fast.

He is weighing in 19.6 pounds and is rocking the 6-9 month clothing.  He has consistently moved up in clothes right on track.  However, I'm not convinced he will make it to 9 months before needing to change clothes.  Some of those onesies are a struggle to get his head through.

He loves to move.  He is rocking what we call the inch worm crawl, loves to roll over to get where he wants, and would jump for hours if we let him.  He likes to work on pulling himself up and to take a few steps with Daddy holding his hands.  He is a champion sleeper.  Most nights he is down at 7:30 and asleep until 7 when I wake him to get ready for daycare.

He loves food, seeing his Dad come home from work, playing in the bathtub, and Miss Ashley on Saturday nights at The Creek.  He hates having his hair brushed and he lets you know that he is not happy that he finished his bottle so soon.

He is so fun and we are looking forward to watching him continue to grow.

Friday Favorites

It's Friday!  That means it is time to party.  I say party as in attempt to sleep in, function at a slower pace and enjoy time with my boys.  I'm linking up today with Andrea, Erika and Narci for Friday Favorites.

As of today we have an 8 month old in our house.  I find that incredibly hard to believe.  I feel like I was just praying that he come on his due date so that I wouldn't be in the hospital on Thanksgiving Day.  Thankfully he semi answered Mommy's prayer and we went to the hospital on his due date only to meet him the next day.  We were still home before Thanksgiving so all is well.  How is it now July and how is he 8 months old?  Check back on Monday for my 8 month post all about Carson.

My next favorite is this and more of this
We finally have a Hobby Lobby in Raleigh.  I could not be more happy about this.  It opened just in time to give me plenty of time to do some holiday decorating shopping for this year.  Sorry Greg.

I loved seeing all of the great home tours on Tuesday for Andrea's Show and Tell Tuesday.  If you missed it you can see our home here.

I have never been a big hair product person, but a few months ago I knew I needed to make some changes in what I used on my hair.  I am LOVING my new hair products.

Redken Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo and Conditioner.

After I shower, I put in a little of this.  It smells wonderful.  It's the Moroccanoil Treatment.  I guarantee you will love it.
There are days when you don't want to wash your hair and on those days I use Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo.

I LOVE this stuff.  You can get it here

Have a great weekend everyone!  Thanks for stopping by.  If you need me, I'll be celebrating Christmas in July with some Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole.

Life Lately

I'm not sure if you are aware but it is HOT!  Let me just say that I was not made to last in temperatures like we have been having.  My phone said the high for Sunday is going to be 100.  Barf.  We have been very thankful for AC this past week.

Life Lately has been busy for us.  We are in the middle of our Live Love Serve week at our church this week.  If you are local come out TONIGHT for Free Pizza Thursday.
Saturday is our Food & Clothing Giveaway.  I love how our church does so much for the community.

We all had fun sorting clothes on Tuesday night.  Even the baby can learn how to serve early on.

Carson has also been working on brushing his two little teeth.

Carson is also learning to play well with friends.

Well, we try.

He is also working on playing by himself.

That is life lately around our house.  Bring on the AC and popsicles.  Please and thank you.  If you need me, I'll be in the corner dreaming of fall temps, football, pumpkin, and more pumpkin.

Show and Tell Tuesday: Home Tours

It's Show and Tell Tuesday with Andrea and today is all about home tours.
I love seeing how people have their homes.  I learn something from other peoples homes.

To see my post about our house from last year you can click here.  I also wrote a post here about our house shortly after we moved in.

Since the last post we now have a completed nursery and we redid what used to be our office.

Our guest room is now a huge pile of stuff to organize.  Hopefully I can post some pictures of it soon.

We did get this organizing cube from Target for it and this bedding.  All of our walls are gray in the house which makes for some fun color choices in everything else.  Carson's room is painted Bluebird and we bought his paint at Home Depot.

My brother built us some additional storage in our laundry room.  We still need to stain it but it is so functional.

Here are a few pictures of our sweet little house.  We love it.  It has been a great first house for us.

Even Carson likes Mommy and Daddy's bed.

Thanks for stopping by and seeing our house.

Friday Favorites

It's Friday!  It's Friday!

The week back to work after vacation is always rough, so I'm so happy it is Friday.  I'm linking up with Andrea, Erika and Narci for Friday Favorites.

This week I talked about our vacation some, three people I would want to be stranded with, and some yummy brownies.  Blogging is definitely a favorite.  I have so loved the community that it brings.

As always this little guy is my favorite.  My Dad found him this little pool and boy do we have a water baby on our hands.  His little whale came from some of my Pampers Rewards points.

We had some Carter's reward points too so I may have ordered a few little things for the buddy for his next size.

I can't handle a baby in jeans.  It is too much.

It's no secret that I love a good Bath & Body Works candle.  I have been burning the Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla at work and the Mahogany Coconut at home.  It is getting close to time to make another order.  Any good suggestions on scents?

Last but not least is the fact that in 3 weeks I will be watching the Opening Ceremony!  I am so ready to watch the Olympics.
Have a great weekend everyone!  We have a busy weekend and week ahead.  Our church has our mission trip to our community starting this week.  We love taking part in Live Love Serve at our church.  See you next week!

Turtle Brownies

Confession time, I love brownies.  I also am a huge fan of brownie batter.  Licking the bowl is probably the best part of the brownie process.

The other day I was in the mood for some warm gooey turtle brownies.

My favorite brownie recipe comes from those lovely people at Hershey's.

Here goes...
Stir together 2 sticks of melted butter or margarine (don't waste your time with margarine, just go for the butter and thank me later), 2 cups of sugar, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla.  Add 4 eggs (one at a time) and beat well with spoon after each egg.  Add 3/4 Hershey's cocoa and beat until well blended.  Add 1 cup of all purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.  You can use self rising flour too.  If you do that than leave out the baking powder and salt.

At this point I tossed in a cup or so of my Kraft Caramel Bits and about a cup of chopped pecans.  Bake for 30-35 minutes in a 9x13 pan at 350 degrees.  I like to put these in my Pampered Chef Brownie Pan too sometimes.  That way I get perfect little brownies that are already a serving size and they are the perfect brownie.  Crunchy edges and gooey middle.  All the brownie lovers said amen.

If you want to go crazy add a little ice cream on top and a drizzle of caramel sauce.  You will thank me later.  We used our Mayfield Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream on ours.  Blue Bell won't be making it back to NC anytime soon so Mayfield is the next best option for us.

Stranded With Some Famous People

Oh no, I'm stranded again.  Lucky for me I am stranded with three famous people today.  That's right, it is time to link up with Erika and Shay for their Stranded With link up.
I thought long and hard on this one and here are my three famous people who I would choose to be Stranded With.

{One}
I have loved Reese for years.  I feel like she is the Southern Belle that we all wish we were.  Everytime I see her give an interview I just think how fun she would be to hang out with.

{Two}
I know I would need to laugh a lot if I was stranded so that made this choice a no brainer.  Maybe we could play with some classroom instruments or write thank you notes too.

{Three}
And last but not least I would want to talk all about renovations and how to make this deserted island look wonderful and there is only one person for that job.

I'm excited to see who everyone else picks.
